Metro Manila prepares as Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’ approaches

admin November 7, 2025

LOCAL government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) are actively preparing for the potential impact of Super Typhoon “Uwan,” according to Metro Manila Council (MMC) president and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora.

“The preparation of all Metro Manila LGUs is ongoing,” Zamora stated in an interview. He emphasized that LGUs are taking proactive measures to mitigate the storm’s effects.

These preparations include:

  • Prepositioning rescue equipment and relief goods: Ensuring resources are readily available for immediate response.
  • Declogging drainage systems: Clearing waterways to minimize the risk of flooding.
  • Securing fuel for pumping stations: Guaranteeing the continuous operation of flood control infrastructure.
  • Trimming trees: Reducing the potential for falling branches to cause damage or injury.
  • Preparing evacuation centers: Ensuring safe havens are ready for residents who need to evacuate.

Zamora urged residents to evacuate early, before the worst of the storm hits. “Let’s not wait for the heavy rains to hit for us to evacuate. We need to evacuate before it hits,” he advised.

He also stressed the importance of clear and effective communication from local mayors, ensuring residents know where to seek help if needed.

As of the latest advisory from PAGASA, Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong, which will be named “Uwan” upon entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), was located 1,500 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 95 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph, moving northwestward at 10 kph. PAGASA expects “Uwan” to enter the PAR by Friday midnight or early Saturday morning.

Metro Manila residents are advised to stay informed and heed the warnings and instructions of their local authorities as Super Typhoon “Uwan” approaches.
