STATE weather bureau Pagasa said Wednesday that a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was seen 365 kilometers east southeast of General Santos City.
Pagasa said that the LPA entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at around 8 this morning.
“Meron tayong namataan na LPA na nasa loob po ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility at naka-embed o nakapaloob po ito doon sa ating [intertropical convergence zone] ITCZ,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Jay Estareja during the agency’s climate forum.
Estareja said that the LPA and ITCZ will bring heavy rains over Caraga, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Northern Mindanao.
The LPA, however, is less likely to develop as a tropical cyclone and may dissolve in the next 24 or 26 hours, according to the weather specialist.
It is also expected to be almost stationary and move slowly westward.
Meanwhile, easterlies are affecting Luzon and Visayas while the ITCZ is affecting Mindanao.
“Mindanao will experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, especially the eastern sections, due to LPA and ITCZ, Aurora, Quezon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and nearby areas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to easterlies,” Pagasa said.
“Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to easterlies,” it added.
