Heavy rains to lash Metro Manila, parts of Luzon

admin July 8, 2025

MODERATE to heavy rain showers, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, are expected to affect Metro Manila and eight other areas in Luzon on Tuesday afternoon, according to a thunderstorm advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The advisory, released at 1:51 p.m., warned of these conditions within the next two hours for Metro Manila, Tarlac, Bataan, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas. PAGASA also noted that similar conditions were already being experienced, and likely to persist for at least two hours, in parts of Nueva Ecija (Jaen, Santa Rosa, Cabanatuan, Palayan, Talavera, Llanera, General Mamerto Natividad, Penaranda), Bulacan (Santa Maria, San Jose del Monte, Norzagaray, Marilao), and Zambales (Palauig, Iba, Botolan).

Residents in these areas and nearby localities are advised to take precautionary measures against potential flash floods and landslides.

The thunderstorm advisory comes as Pagasa reported the formation of a new low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

While the probability of this system developing into a tropical cyclone remains low, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continues to affect the country, contributing to the increased rainfall.

Pagasa’s warning highlights the importance of monitoring weather updates and taking necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall. The agency urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and to prepare for potential flooding and landslides, particularly those living in low-lying areas and mountainous regions. The weather bureau will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
