‘Caloy slightly intensifies; slowly meanders over WPS

admin June 30, 2022

TROPICAL depression ‘Caloy will bring monsoon rains in the next 24-hours over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by this tropical depression will bring occasionally gusty conditions reaching strong breeze to near gale in strength over Extreme Northern Luzon, and the western sections of Luzon and Visayas. These conditions are more likely in coastal and mountainous/upland localities of these areas.

“Caloy ” will bring moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 3.7 m) over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon. These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.

Tropical Depression “CALOY” is forecast to move generally northwestward slowly until today before slightly accelerating northward for the remainder of June 30. On the forecast track, the tropical depression will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next 24 hours.

Outside the PAR region, “CALOY” will track northwestward or west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea on Friday (1 July) and Saturday (2 July). The tropical depression will then move slowly north northwestward on Sunday and Monday towards the southern portion of China, where it is forecast to make landfall.

“CALOY” is forecast to reach tropical storm category in the next 24 hours. A peak intensity of around 75 km/h may be reached by Friday evening or Saturday. Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h
