THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced that December 22, 2022, will be the longest night of the year due to the Winter Solstice which falls today, Thursday.
This will make night time longer than daytime as the Earth completed another annual circuit around the Sun.
According to Pagasa astronomical diary, the exact time of the 2022 winter solstice in the Philippines started at 5:48 a.m.
The agency added that during the December Solstice, the northern hemisphere will experience the shortest day and longest night, this day also marks the first day of winter.
In the southern hemisphere, this day marks the first day of summer.
As the nights eventually get shorter, the days will get longer until the Spring equinox, which will make the length of night and day equal.
Meanwhile, summer solstice occurred in the country last June 21, 2022, when we are closest to the sun which resulted in shorter nights and longer daytimes.
