Amihan brings cool winds in PH

admin December 19, 2022

THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday there was already the northeast monsoon (Amihan) bringing in cool winds.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said “Napapansin na ho ba ninyo na medyo lumalamig na yung temperatura natin at makikita ngayon na medyo bumababa na yung temperatura dahil sa pag-iral ng northeast monsoon.”

Here are the temperatures in key areas in the country:

Laoag: 20 to 22 degrees Celsius

Tuguegarao: 19 to 25 degrees Celsius

Baguio: 14 to 24 degrees Celsius

Metro Manila: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius

Tagaytay: 22 to 28 degrees Celsius

Legazpi: 23 to 28 degrees Celsius

Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius

Puerto Princesa: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Beyond the northeast monsoon, dampening the start of the workweek are the trough, or the extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) in Indonesia, and the shear line.

Parts of Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies and at times heavy rains due to the trough, while the shear line may bring heavy rains in the Bicol region and Romblon.

A gale warning was also raised in some areas due to the northeast monsoon.

Affected by the gale warning due to Northeast Monsoon are the following areas:

Batanes

Cagayan including Babuyan Islands

Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Sur

La Union

Pangasinan

Isabela

Zambales

Bataan

Aurora

Badrina also said it is risky for small vessels to travel from the following areas:

Batangas

Quezon including Polilio Islands

Oriental Mindoro

Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island

Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands

Camarines Norte

Camarines Sur

Catanduanes

Masbate including Burias Island

Albay

Sorsogon

Romblon

Marinduque

Also, sea conditions will also be rough in the Western and Eastern seaboards of Visayas and the seaboard of Mindanao, particularly in the following provinces:

Aklan

Capiz

Northern Samar

Eastern Samar

Surigao del Sur

Dinagat

Siargao Islands

“Sa lugar po na ‘yan, magiging delikado ang pagpalaot lalung lalo na yung maliliit na mga bangka kaya ho makikiusap ho kami iwasan munang pumalaot sa mga lugar na ito dahil magiging maalon ang karagatan. Maaring magpatuloy ito dahil lalakas yung northeast monsoon sa mga susunod na araw,” Badrina said.
