THE weather state bureau said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over 11 areas on Sunday due to Tropical Depression Enteng.

In an 11 am report, Pagasa said the areas under TCWS No. 1 are:

the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Presentacion, Garchitorena, Caramoan, Calabanga, Naga City, Pili, Bombon, Magarao, Ocampo, Baao, Nabua, Bula, Balatan, Bato, Milaor, Minalabac, Camaligan, Saglay, Iriga City, Buhi, Tigaon, San Jose, Goa, Siruma, Tinambac, Lagonoy, Canaman, Gainza, San Fernando);

Catanduanes;

Albay;

Sorsogon;

Burias Island;

Ticao Island;

Northern Samar;

Samar;

Eastern Samar;

Biliran; and

the northeastern portion of Leyte (Babatngon, San Miguel, Tacloban City, Alangalang, Santa Fe, Palo, Barugo).

These areas will have strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h in 36 hours, posing minimal to minor threat to life and property.

At 10 a.m., the center of Enteng was estimated to be located at 120 km North Northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar or 150 km East of Catarman, Northern Samar (12.6°N, 126.0°E).

Enteng has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.

The tropical depression is moving northwestward at 30 km/h.

From Enteng’s center, strong winds are extending outwards up to 150 km.

“The highest possible Wind Signal that may be hoisted during the passage of ENTENG is Wind Signal No. 2 or 3,” the weather bureau said.

PAGASA earlier in the day said the low pressure area located east of Eastern Visayas developed into a tropical depression and was named Enteng.

Rainfall

From Sunday up to Monday noon, 100 to 200 mm of rain are to be expected over Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Biliran.

Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and the rest of Eastern Visayas meanwhile will have 50 to 100 mm of rainfall.

From Monday noon to Tuesday noon on the other hand, the forecast accumulated rainfall is 100 to 200 mm for Isabela, and 50 to 100 mm for Cagayan, Quirino, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

On Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, 100 to 200 mm of rainfall may be expected in Babuyan Islands, and 50 to 100 mm in Batanes, mainland Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

PAGASA said elevated or mountainous areas may have generally higher amount of rainfall.

With this, areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to hazards may have flooding and rain-induced landslides. The same may be true of localities which had considerable amounts of rainfall in the past few days.

Habagat

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring moderate to intense rainfall in parts of Luzon and Visayas, particularly along the western portions.

Strong to gale-force gusts will be felt in the following areas, especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds:

• From today to tomorrow noon: MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas (outside Wind Signal areas), Caraga Region, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula

• From tomorrow noon to Tuesday noon: Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Caraga Region.

• From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon: Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

Coastal waters

The eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon, the seaboard of Northern Samar, the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar, and the seaboard of Kalayaan Islands will have moderate to rough seas in the next 24 hours due to Enteng and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

“Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels,” PAGASA said.

The remaining seaboards of Bicol Region, Palawan, and Eastern Visayas, the seaboard of Western Visayas, the northern and eastern seaboard of Caraga Region, and the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental may expect moderate seas.

Slight to moderate seas meanwhile may be experienced in the eastern seaboard of mainland Northern Luzon, the southern seaboard of CALABARZON, the remaining seaboards of MIMAROPA and Caraga Region, the seaboard of Northern Mindanao, and the eastern seaboard of Davao Occidental.

“Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions,” the weather bureau said.
