TYPHOON ‘Julian’ maintains its strength of 175 kph and gustiness up to 240 kph.
It is now located west of Batanes, and moving west northwestward at 15 kph.
It is forecast to reach super typhoon strength later this Monday.
Wind Signal No. 4 remains in effect in Batanes. Signal No. 3 is still up in Babuyan Islands while mainland Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, and northern and central Ilocos Sur are under Signal No. 2.
Signal No. 1 in Polillo Islands has been lifted.
‘Julian’ will remain a super typhoon while recurving on Tuesday and before making landfall over southern Taiwan on Wednesday.
Interaction with the rugged terrain of Taiwan will weaken Julian into a typhoon. It will be out of the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday.
