WHO will outgun who?
The TNT-Rain or Shine showdown has been a showdown and a shootout, with the battle only expected to be more intense as the two teams slug it out in a knockout duel to determine the side that will complete the PBA Philippine Cup Final Four picture.
It’s actually a Wednesday double knockout at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium with top seed San Miguel Beer and upset-seeking eighth-ranked Terrafirma duking it out in the 4:30 p.m. curtain raiser.
Then TNT and Rain or Shine set out for their own do-or-die face-off, with the winner advancing to the best-of-seven semifinals versus the victor of the SMB-Terrafirma tiff.
The other semifinal pairing has been determined earlier, pitting second seed Barangay Ginebra (winner over Magnolia) and Meralco (conqueror of NLEX).
It will be a pair of showdowns between teams of corporate giants San Miguel Corp. and MVP Group should San Miguel and TNT prevail in the closing play date of the quarters.
The Beermen and the Tropang Giga, though foiled the last time out, remain the favorites, considering their experience, depth and the fact that they’re perennial title contenders.
But the Dyip and the E-Painters are determined to defy the odds.
Coach Yeng Guiao is banking on his young guns whose admirable passion, fire and courage served them well in their lifesaving 121-113 victory Sunday.
“Importante dito itong batang team namin, natututo nang lumaban sa endgame. Ang mga batang team kasi ito ang problema. Maybe for three, three-and-a-half quarters nakakasabay sila then pagdating ng fourth, bumigay na, which is nangyari sa amin nung last game,” said ROS coach Yeng Guiao. pba.ph
