SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez today expressed his support and well-wishes for Filipino athletes competing in the Paris Olympics that will be held from Jul 26 to August 11 this year.
A delegation of Paris-bound Filipino athletes led by Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas President Monico Puentevella paid the Speaker a courtesy call at his office in the House of Representatives Wednesday afternoon.
The Speaker thanked the Pinoy Olympians for bringing honor to the country as he also expressed his admiration for their dedication, strength, and outstanding achievements on the world stage.
“Each one of you has worked so hard and faced many challenges to get to where you are. You’ve shown great dedication and strength, and you carried our flag with pride on the world stage. Your stories inspire us all,” said Speaker Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
As a token of his appreciation and support for all Pinoy Olympians in their quest for gold in the Paris Olympics, Speaker Romualdez provided each one financial assistance amounting to P500,000.
“This is more than just a reward; it’s our way of saying we believe in you and are here to help you succeed in the future,” Speaker Romualdez said.
“Your success brings hope and joy to every Filipino. You have shown that with passion and perseverance, we can achieve greatness. You are a shining example for the next generation of athletes and all of us,” he added.
The Paris-bound Olympians were represented by John Ceniza, Eireen Ando and Vanessa Sarno, who are all competing in weightlifting, along with Joanie Delgaco who will represent the country in rowing.
Other Pinoy athletes who have qualified to compete in the Paris Olympics include EJ Obiena (Pole Vault) , Carlos Yulo (Gymnastics), Aleah Finnegan (Gymnastics), Eumir Marcial (Boxing), Nesthy Petecio (Boxing), Aira Villegas (Boxing) Rosegie Ramos (Weightlifting), Levi Jung-Ruivivar (Gymnastics), and Samantha Catantan (Fencing).
Romualdez said the Pinoy Olympians have inspired millions of Filipinos with their hard work and achievements, reminding everyone that with determination and effort they can overcome any obstacle and reach their dreams.
He said the House of Representatives stands united in providing continuous support and resources to ensure Filipino athletes keep shining on the global stage and bring pride and honor to our country.
“We are here for you every step of the way. We believe in you and are committed to making sure you have the support and resources you need to continue shining on the world stage. Thank you for making us proud. Mabuhay kayo, at mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino!”
