Senate adopts resolution commending a promising boxing hero

admin June 4, 2025

THE Senate on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 adopted Senate Resolution No. 1361 commending and congratulating Pedro Taduran for successfully defending the International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Minimumweight Championship Title.

The resolution was introduced by Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, a well-known sports enthusiast.

“Our country is considered as a breeding ground for boxing talent. Boxing is considered as one of the famous sports in the country. We have seen the humble beginning of world class boxers including olympics stand out,” Go said.

“I am committed to promoting and advancing our grassroots sports development program for the betterment of our nation,” he added.

Taduran, also known as “Kid Heneral” and a 27-year-old native of Libon, Albay, achieved an impressive victory at the Intex Osaka, Japan by defeating Japanese contender Ginjiro Shigeoka.

Taduran displayed his grit and determination in the World Minimumweight Championship rematch against his Japanese boxing opponent, earning a hard-fought split decision victory with scorecards of 118-110, 115-113, and 113-115. The win improved his professional record to 18-4-1, including 13 knockouts.

Taduran’s victory has demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level, further establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the boxing ring. His win did not only showcase his skill and talent, but also highlighted his potential to become a formidable force in the sport of boxing for many years to come.

Taduran overpowered his opponent Shigeoka in a rematch to retain his IBF title on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in Osaka, Japan. He emerged with a split decision victory after 12 rounds of boxing bout, a fight that proved more competitive than their first encounter barely a year ago, when Taduran dethroned Shigeoka for the same title.
