WORLD champion and Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz captures the elusive golds at weightlifting.
The Filipina wonder took home three medals in the women’s 55kg division in the International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Bogota, Colombia on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
The reigning Olympic champion cleared 93 kg. on snatch and 114 kg. on clean and jerk for a total lift of 207 kg., edging out hometown bet Rosalba Morales who had a total of 199 kg. and Mexico’s Ana Gabriela Lopez who tallied a total of 198 kg.
The world title had been elusive for Diaz, who already has in her collection of gold medals from the Olympics, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian Games. She settled for bronze in the women’s 53 kg. in 2015 and 2017 and another bronze in the women’s 55 kg. in 2019.
This victory is a huge boost to Diaz’s bid to qualify in the 2024 Paris Olympics as she will try to defend her title in the Summer Games.
