FILIPINA tennis sensation Alexandra ‘Alex’ Eala is scheduled for a much-awaited homecoming after a historic run in Wimbledon, where she figured prominently among the world’s top netters and became the first player from the Philippines to ever reach the second week of the Wimbledon Championships in the Open Era.
After her breakthrough run in the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, Eala is in for a much-needed break as she returns home to take a rest and meet with her local fans this month.
Although she failed to reach the quarterfinals with her loss to Italian ace Jasmine Paolini, the 21-year-old lass from Quezon City not only further elevated Philippine tennis on the world stage but also earned ranking points in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA)’s world listings and a huge cash prize to boot.
On Facebook, Globe Telecommunications announced the ‘Alex Eala Fan Meet Experience’ scheduled on July 15 at the Glorietta Activity Center, where fans will be part of the #GlobeHomeCrowd to meet and greet the country’s pride face-to-face.
Registration for the event has been set on the same day at 4:00 in the afternoon as the program will start at 6:00 in the evening.
Eala has just finished an awe-inspiring performance at Wimbledon, where she beat defending champion Iga Swiatek before bowing out of the tournament with a defeat against her Italian nemesis.
Tennis aficionados described Eala’s journey as ‘inspiring’ and Filipinos worldwide have given her accolations for the achievements she has done in giving the Philippines the honor and prestige on the global stage of the sport.
Based on a rolling 52-week system, with a player’s best 18 singles tournament results counting toward their total ranking points, Eala earned 240 WTA ranking points and is currently ranked at number 32.
Eala also took home £300,000 (approximately US$396,100) in prize money for reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon. Before Wimbledon, Eala had already earned US$871,438 in prize money during the 2026 season.
