ONE hundred seventy golfers joined the 4th Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan Golf Cup which was held on 12 August 2024 at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The sponsors of the tournament, members of the UP Barkada, composed of alumni associations of various fraternities in the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Christian in Golf Association, Orchard Golf members as well as members, friends and colleagues of the Pi Sigma Fraternity Fraternity Alumni Association, Inc. (PSFAAI) enjoyed the event, which distributed giveaways and raffle items worth almost a million pesos.
The 4th Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan Golf Cup is part of the 52nd Anniversary celebration of the Pi Sigma Fraternity, which was founded in the University of the Philippines in Diliman on 15 August 1972.
The proceeds of the tournament will go to the scholarship programs and other socially-relevant projects of the PSFAAI, a non-stock, non-profit alumni association, in pursuit of its twin objectives of Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan and Paragon of Scholarship. Filipino composer and artist Noel Cabangon serenaded the participants with his hits, Tatsulok and Kanlungan, and with a still to be recorded song.
Lauding the tournament organizer, the Pi Sigma Fraternity, for its principle of Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan, he encouraged the participants to serve in any way and capacity the Filipino people.
Orchard Golf members Rafael Ante and Frank Figura emerged as Low Net and Low Gross Champions, scoring gross scores of 80 and 78, respectively, in the tourney which employed the System 36 Scoring Format. Ante had a net score of 70.
Lee Jae Min and Orchard Golf Director Jose Gonzales garnered the top two places in Class A of the Men’s Division with net scores of 70 and 71, respectively.
Boy Leonardo, with a net score of 71, was the Champion in Class B and Angel Corpuz, with a net score of 72, garnered 1st Runner Up honors in Class B. Sigman Golfer Rodel Udarbe emerged as Champion in Class C with a net score of 75, while Opie Nioko was 1st Runner Up with a net score of 76.
Twenty three lady golfers participated in the tournament with Orchard Golf Member Susana Ante emerging as the Women’s Champion with a net score of 73.
Hazel Aguto and Ashely Eumague placed 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up, respectively, in the Women’s Division, both with net scores of 74.
Eight member fraternities of the UP Barkada participated in the team event, with the host fraternity, Pi Sigma Fraternity, opting to play in the Player Course to accommodate the big number of participants.
Sigma Rho Fraternity was awarded the Championship Trophy for the team event, garnering the best aggregate score based on the net scores of their top four players. Separate trophies were also awarded for the Fun Holes for both Men and Women. Orchard Golf Director Jose Gonzales and Anne dela Peña were Nearest to the Pin; Atty. Gilbert Millado and Anne dela Peña won the Most Accurate Drive; while Jong Bong Kyu and Roselyn Demeterio hit the Longest Drive.
The 4th edition of the Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan Golf Cup was co-presented by the Abellera and Calica Law Offices, Parada Rivera Evardone and Salalima Attorneys-at-Law (PRESLAW), Nickel Asia Corporation, and Creative Ventures Travel and Tours.
