Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez recieves from Camarines Sur Governor Luigi Villafuerte a copy of Resolution No. 468 of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan declaring him as Adopted Son of the province during the Tabang Bikol-Tindog Oragon relief rollout at the Ka Fuerte Sports Complex in the town of Pili Thursday afternoon. With them are Camarines Sur Reps. Migz Villafuerte (5th District) and Lray Villafuerte (2nd District), House Appropriations Committee Chair and Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co, along with Bicol Saro Partylist Rep. Bryan Yamsuan.
CITING Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez’ initiative to bring aid to the victims of Typhoon Kristine as well as his efforts that contributed to the growth of Camarines Sur, the provincial government declared him an adopted son of the province.
During the Camarines Sur leg of the Tabang Bicol-Tindog Oragon relief caravan held Thursday at the Ka Fuerte Sports Complex in the town of Pili, Gov. Luigi Villafuerte presented Speaker Romualdez with Resolution No. 468, Series of 2024 declaring him as the province’s Adopted Son.
The resolution was unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. All the members of the provincial board, including Vice Governor Salvio Patrick Fortuno, Jr., and Gov. Villafuerte are signatories to the resolution.
“Resolved, as it is hereby resolved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Camarines Sur in session assembled, to declare, as it hereby declares, Honorable Congressman Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez, Speaker of the House of Representatives as an Adopted Son of the Province of Camarines Sur,” the resolution said.
The resolution noted that the title of an adopted son or daughter is the “highest recognition that the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur confers to an individual whose outstanding achievements and unconditional love and concern to Camarines Sur and its people are unparalleled.”
“…The recent humanitarian act of Speaker Romualdez, which touched the lives of the people of Camarines Sur was manifested during the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, which brought great damage to the vast part of the province when he immediately extended assistance intended to the victims of the typhoon,” the resolution said.
The resolution likewise cited the Speaker’s “substantial support and contributions to the growth and progress of the Province of Camarines Sur through various programs, initiatives, and assistance that he extended are all beneficial to the Camarinenses.”
It could be recalled that upon the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., Speaker Romualdez led the House of Representatives in launching the Tabang Bikol-Tindog Oragon massive relief initiative, in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Last November 18, the House dispatched a convoy consisting of 24 trucks loaded with food, hygiene kits, clothing and other essential items relief gathered from a nationwide donation drive to deliver critical assistance to the affected communities in the Bicol region.
The Tabang Bicol-Tindog Oragon relief initiative staged earmarked a total of over P850 million worth of assistance packages intended for the typhoon victims in the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Camarines Sur also pointed out that Speaker Romualdez, who represents the 1st District of Leyte, is a distinguished leader and public servant who exhibited exemplary commitment and dedication to the development of the country.
They noted that under his leadership as Speaker of the House of Representatives, he has championed landmark legislative measures and has shown commitment to developing strong partnerships with the local government units by fostering collaboration and mutual respect.
This, according to the resolution, has greatly contributed to the harmonious relationship between the national government and the Province of Camarines Sur.
