ALL government officials, whether appointed or elected, should be required to declare their wealth, including their businesses, to ensure transparency in public service for the Filipino people.
This statement was made by ACT-CIS Partylist Representative and “Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas” senatorial candidate Erwin Tulfo when asked during a press conference how Filipinos can ensure that a sitting public official is free from corruption and maintains a spotless record.
“Every government official must disclose to the Filipino people the sources of their wealth, including the reasons for any increases over time during their term of service,” Tulfo said.
He further added, “A public official should explain how they can afford to purchase a mansion, luxury cars, or even personal items like jewelry.”
The ACT-CIS Partylist Representative also stressed the importance of declaring family businesses, including the origin of their capital.
“It is crucial to disclose the capital funding, especially when it involves millions, because the Filipino people deserve nothing less than full transparency regarding the lifestyle and businesses of their public officials, who took an oath to serve them,” Tulfo emphasized.
He also pointed out, “If a public official fails to explain where their wealth, properties, and business funding come from, it raises a red flag and should be investigated by the Ombudsman.”
The senatorial candidate concluded by stressing that transparency should apply to all public officials, from Barangay leaders to lawmakers, and even the President, as well as members of the police, military, cabinet, and the judiciary.
