BORACAY ISLAND, Malay – Lt. Col. Don Dicksie de Dios, Malay Chief of Police, , revealed yesterday that there was no significant incident or zero crime recorded in the municipality during the entire observance of Lenten Season amidst heavy influx of foreign and domestic tourists in the island.
This was reported by Col. De Duos to Col Crisaleo Tolentino, Aklan Provincial Director, who said that this was a record-breaking considering the volume of tourists who flocked here.
Based on records furnished by Mr Felix Delos Santos Jr, Aklan Chief Tourism Operations Officer, records show that Tourist Arrival from period April 1-17 recorded a 100,945 figure.
On April 14, 2022 alone it has recorded, 12,266 persons arrival.
Municipal Tourism Office Comparative Statistics of Boracay Holy Week Tourist Arrival recorded 836 tourists for 2021 compared to 44, 981 records for 2022. this translate to a 5281% substantial increase in Tourist arrival.
“With the maximize utilization of patrol cars, motorcycles and increased police visibility that pushed more uniformed personnel in every busy street, and strategic areas of the island, an effective and efficient police operations resulting to zero crime incident was realized.
It is indeed a tried-and-tested crime deterrent,” pointed out de Dios. Col de Dios said operating units in the field composed of Task Group Boracay – Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guards, 2nd Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company, 605th MARPSTA, and Aviation Security Group partnered with the Malay LGU through the MDRRMO headed by Catherine Ong and Malay PNP performed their duties and responsibilities more than what is expected from them: “to do what is right and what is due to the public.”
This goes to show that our men on the ground sternly adhered to the directive of higher headquarters and that discipline is instilled among our personnel, he said.
“Police effectiveness depends heavily in a functioning collaborative relationship with other law enforcement units and the community. When law enforcement agencies have good relationship with the local community and understand their needs, they are better able to deliver myriads of quality public safety services,” De Dios added.
The Malay local government units thru Mayor Frolibar Bautista and Col Tolentino of Aklan PPO congratulated and lauded the accomplishments of all the operating units and the Officers and Men of the Malay police.
