A WOMAN did not expect that her decision to break up with her police partner would lead to her death, according to a police report this morning in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
Another friend of the victim was also shot dead by the police suspect.
The fatalities were identified as Janeth Catarman Besa, 25, of Brgy. San Vicente, and Karyl Mae Abanggan, 21, residing in Brgy. Tumanan, in the said town.
The suspect and partner of Besa, identified as Police Master Sergeant Kenneth Viola Cacho from Barangay Poblacion, Cateel Davao Oriental, and a member of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office, was apprehended by his peers.
According to the report from the Bislig City Police Office, the crime occurred around 11:20 PM last Monday at a bar located in Purok 3, Bongaitan District, Mangagoy Bislig City.
Based on the police investigation, Besa separated from Cacho because he allegedly had a spouse until their paths crossed at the said location.
While the victims were eating, the suspect approached them and conversed with Besa, leading to a heated argument that escalated when Cacho drew a gun and shot both of them.
The victims sustained gunshot wounds in various parts of their bodies, resulting in their immediate deaths.
After the crime, the suspect attempted to escape but was later apprehended by the Bislig-PNP and Police Regional Office-13 personnel.
In responding to the crime scene, the police recovered 8 empty shells of a 9mm pistol.
The suspect may face multiple criminal charges. Authorities continue their investigation.
