Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur – A joyous victory motorcade celebrating the recent 2025 national and local elections turned tragic yesterday morning, May 15, when an Isuzu Forward Cargo truck plowed into four motorcycles and a motorized tricycle in Barangay Suso, resulting in one death and five injuries.
According to the Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station (MPS), the truck, driven by a 54-year-old man from Barangay Pugo, Bauang, La Union, struck the vehicles participating in the motorcade along the national highway. The collision involved a Euro 125 motorcycle (driver: 34-year-old male, Barangay Tangaoan); a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle (driver and female passenger, both from Barangay Baliw Daya); another Yamaha NMAX motorcycle (driver: 44-year-old male, Barangay Ag-agrao); a Mio i125 motorcycle (driver: 39-year-old male, Barangay Cabaroan); and a motorized tricycle (driver: male, Barangay Suso).
The 44-year-old driver of one of the Yamaha NMAX motorcycles was killed instantly. The other victims, who sustained various injuries, were rushed to the Narvacan District Hospital. The truck driver was unharmed.
Initial investigations suggest the truck driver lost control while overtaking another vehicle. The participants were preparing to begin their motorcade when the accident occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
