SIX people died when a truck rammed into seven houses on the side of Maharlika Highway in Brgy. Caglanipao Sur, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City, Samar, midnight of Tuesday, July 2.
According to the report from Calbayog City Police, the self-loader truck was coming from Naval town, Biliran province, and heading to Allen, Northern Samar when it allegedly lost its brakes around 12 midnight.
The driver, identified only as Chiko, 40, a resident of Caloocan City, lost control of the truck and plowed into the seven houses on the left side of the highway.
Investigations show that three houses were completely destroyed while four others were partially damaged.
Among the fatalities were four women and two men from the Ompad and Velarde families who were sleeping in the houses when the accident occurred.
One more victim is still being treated in the hospital. The truck driver, who was also injured and brought to the hospital, is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, physical injury, and damage to properties.
