A CONSTRUCTION worker was killed, and two others were injured in an accident at the Taytay Sports Complex in Barangay Muzon, Taytay, Rizal, Friday morning as the soil suddenly collapsed burying the workers.
The Bureau of Fire Protection Taytay said three construction workers were in a deep section of the site for excavation and facility development works when the ground suddenly collapsed, burying them under the debris.
An initial investigation by the Taytay Municipal Police Station confirmed that the soil had suddenly collapsed or eroded, burying the workers.
Authorities promptly conducted a rescue operation and successfully retrieved the workers, rushing them to the hospital. Two of the workers are now in stable condition, while Renato Radones, 46, was declared dead on arrival.
Taytay Mayor Allan de Leon is currently in discussions with the private contractor to address the condition of the workers and provide them with support.
“Tinitiyak ng Pamahalaang Bayan ng Taytay na maibigay ang lahat ng suporta at serbisyong medikal na kailangan ng dalawang empleyado na naaksidente,” the local government said in a statement issued in its Public Information Office Facebook page.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the ground collapse.
