THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responds to a fire onboard incident involving MV Diamond Highway at the vicinity shoreline of Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, today, Friday.
Based on the initial investigation, the subject vessel ran aground during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette — still undergoing salvage operations up to present.
As of press time, MTug Stargas with firefighting capabilities has proceeded to the reported location for necessary assistance.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station Lapu-Lapu and Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU)-Central Visayas assist the BFP Lapu-Lapu in combating the fire on board the vessel.
In a report, MV Diamond Highway Operations Manager, Arnel Villaganas, said the fire started from the starboard bow while cutting the vessel’s scrap metals.
Pilipinas Precious Metal Resources Inc. (PPMRI) Supervisor, Butch Orasaga, said they safely disembarked all personnel conducting scrap operations.
