Rookie cop dead in encounter with ‘Reds’ during humanitarian activities

admin July 18, 2022

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) mourns the death of another law enforcer who participated in a humanitarian activity in Samar Province on Saturday, July 16.

Patrolman Mark Monge was among those police operatives that came in contact with about 10 members of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) at the areas of San Nicolas, San Jose de Buan and Brgy. Mabuhay, Gandara in Samar.

“We deeply express our condolences to the bereaved family of Patrolman Monge. His dedication to fulfill his duty to serve and protect the country will be remembered,” PNP OIC Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said.

According to police report, the rebels suddenly open fired against the authorities while they were at the height of the humanitarian activity.

Personnel of 804th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8 and 2nd Eastern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company defended themselves and returned fire. The exchange of gunshots lasted for about five minutes until the CTG members withdrew and fled from the area.

The rookie cop was hit badly and was brought to the nearest hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

“Surely, assistance will be given to the family of the victim. Justice will be served. The perpetrators will be made to answer for their criminal actions,” Danao added.
