The victims' pick-up truck
TWO occupants of a pickup truck were injured in a road rage shooting incident in Tanay, Rizal on Sunday.
The suspect, a senior citizen driving a car, fled the scene but was apprehended by police following a short pursuit.
The incident occurred in Barangay Kutyo. Responding officers, alerted by a motorcycle rider, found the pickup truck stopped in the middle of the road, with bullet holes and blood inside.
Initial investigations suggest the shooting stemmed from a near-miss between the suspect’s car and the pickup truck.
The suspect’s car allegedly overtook the pickup truck, causing its side mirror to strike the truck. A subsequent altercation ensued, leading the suspect to open fire on the occupants of the pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, while another passenger suffered a leg wound. Police pursued the suspect for approximately 15 minutes, apprehending him in Morong. A firearm, two bladed weapons, and a broken side mirror were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
While the suspect refused to give a statement, police reported that he confessed to the crime.
He is expected to face multiple charges related to the shooting, including attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
