THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is now investigating the incident of the grounding of MTKR Cassandra and Super Shuttle RoRo 2 at Batangas Port during the height of Tropical Depression Kristine’s onslaught.
Based on the initial report, during the inspection by the port police on October 24, 2024, around three o’clock in the early morning near the Passenger Terminal Building, they noticed a strong odor suspected to have come from leaked oil.
Upon investigation, it was determined to have originated from MTKR Cassandra docked at the ferry berth.
Oil was also seen in the water around the ship. It was also noted during the inspection that Super Shuttle Ro-Ro 2 lost its anchor and was just floating at Multipurpose Berth 2 of the said port.
The PPA is currently conducting further investigation for appropriate action regarding the incident during the storm’s peak.
