COAST Guard Station Surigao del Norte and CG Special Operations Unit-NEM rescued 11 people in a submerged motorbanca off the waters of Day-asan, Surigao City on Saturday.
The rescue operation was initiated in response to a distress call received from a concerned citizen reporting a submerged motorbanca.
Rescuers immediately coordinated with CG Special Operations Unit-NEM to assess the situation and plan a potential search and rescue mission.
All 11 victims were successfully rescued and brought to safety at CGSOU Boathouse.
Investigation revealed that on Saturday, the victims departed from a floating resort in Day-asan, Surigao City en route to Surigao City onboard motorbanca “Justin” when they accidentally ran aground at the shallow waters off Buntog Bato, Day-asan, causing the engine to malfunction which resulted in shafting and dismantling of the propeller.
Eventually, the motorbanca submerged.
The Coast Guard personnel ensured that the survivors were in good physical and mental condition before allowing them to return home.
