A MAGNITUDE 6.4 earthquake jolted the coast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, on Tuesday evening.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tectonic earthquake happened at 7:03 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected.
The epicenter was located 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri.
Intensity IV was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, while instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
Intensity IV – Aparri, Gonzaga, Cagayan; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
Intensity III – Peñablanca, Cagayan; Sinait, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Intensity II – Ilagan, Isabela
Intensity I – Casiguran, Aurora; Candon, Narvacan, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur
At 7:33 p.m., a magnitude 3.7 earthquake hit 25 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri at a depth of 29 kilometers.
Earlier on Tuesday, Phivolcs reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in the area.
