A MAGNITUDE 5.0 earthquake struck off the waters of an Ilocos Norte town on Sunday morning, with aftershocks expected, according to the state seismologist.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located 63 kilometers west of Currimao in Ilocos Norte, occurring at 9:45 a.m. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers.
Instrumental Intensity I was felt in San Nicolas and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, as well as in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Phivolcs noted that no damage to properties is expected from the earthquake.
