A MAGNITUDE 5.0 earthquake took place in Davao Oriental early Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs Director Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol said the tremor happened around 4:19 a.m. some 70 kilometers northeast of the town of Banganga.
He said it had a depth of focus of 17 kms and was tectonic in origin. In its 5:37 a.m. earthquake information, Phivolcs said Intensity 3 was felt by residents in Lingig, Surigao del Sur while Intensity 2 in City of Bislig, also in the same province.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity 1 was recorded in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur; and Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte, the agency said. Damage to infrastructure is unlikely while aftershocks are expected from the latest quake, Bacolcol said.
