THE Land Transportation Office has revoked the driver’s license of a motorist involved in a road crash that killed five members of a family, including three children, on All Saints’ Day in Laguna.

The LTO did not name the driver, but earlier media reports quoting the Calamba police identified her as Alyssa Mae Abitria.

Complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, multiple damage to properties at violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 have reportedly been filed against Abitria.

Police said Abitria, who was driving a pick-up truck, hit two tricycles. Killed were spouses Gilbert and Aileen Palupit and three of their children: Alyssa Joy, Akisha Gileen, and Aleisha Gale. Another daughter, Ayesha Gillian, was injured.

In revoking Abitria’s license, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said she was found to be under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.

This is a violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act and the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, Mendoza said.

He also said she would not be allowed to renew her driver’s license until November 2027, and was meted a P2,000 fine. He said these are maximum penalties that the LTO can impose according to the law.

“Justice is served for the family at least on the part of the LTO. As an agency in charge of ensuring road safety, your LTO will be quick to act on all cases relating to the road safety. And this is one of them,” he said in a statement.

Mendoza initially ordered the 90-day preventive suspension of Abitria’s license after the incident.

Following an investigation by the LTO-Calabarzon, he ordered that her license be revoked.

“Magsilbing aral sana ito sa lahat ng ating mga motorista tungkol sa panganib na dulot ng pagmamaneho ng nakainom. May naghihintay sa ating mga mahal sa buhay sa ating mga tahanan at may mga buhay na maaring madamay sa iresponsableng pagmamaneho,” he said.
