The victim died on the spot after gunmen peppered her car with bullets.
AN election officer was killed, while another critically injured Thursday in an ambush in Pian town, Zamboanga del Norte.
Election officer of Mutia town Maricel Adriatico Peralta, 45, died on the spot, said Police Captain Pocholo Rolando Guerrero, town cop chief.
Her companion assistant election officer Maritess Inding, 52, survived the attack and was being treated in a hospital.
Guerrero said police investigation showed that Peralta was driving her car and traveling with Inding when motorcycle-riding armed men shot them at 8:42 p.m. as they reached Lapu-Lapu bridge in Pian.
Dr. Ricardo Awit of the Pian Municipal Health Office pronounced Peralta dead.
As this developed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday condemned the killing of an election officer in Zamboanga del Norte, who was killed after her vehicle was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailant, saying justice must be served.
“The Comelec condemns the brutal slaying of Engineer Maricel Peralta, election officer of Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte,” Director James Jimenez, chief of the Comelec Education and Information Department, said in a statement.
