Ilocos Covid-19 cases continue to drop

DOH Ilocos Region Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco (R) with Assistant Regional Directo Marwynn D. Bello emphasizes the continues observance of safety protocols amidst the drop of Covid cases in the region during the weekly regional health cluster meeting held on February 22, 2022 at DOH1 Conference Room.

THE Department of Health Ilocos Region reported 45 new cases of Covid-19 making a total  of 21,139 cases from January 1 to February 21, 2022.

In Ilocos Sur, 13 new Covid cases were recorded, 12 in Pangasinan, while La Union and Ilocos Sur had 9 and 8 cases, respectively. Dagupan City has zero Covid case.

The DOH Regional Epridemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) recorded a total of 1,645 (1.4%) active cases and 111,427 (96.5%) recoveries with 2,449 (2.1%) deaths.

Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that cases in the region continue to drop but this doesn’t mean safety measures should be rolled back because we are still in the state of pandemic.

“We must continue observing safety health protocols even as the alert has gone down to second level. The Covid virus is still here that is why it is imporatant that the we continue our vaccination activities to complete the three doses needed for the full protection of our population,” Sydiongco stated.

The Ilocos region was downgraded to alert level 2 last February 16, 2022 which authorizes intrazonal and interzonal movement with a maximum of 50% indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Ilocos region recently topped the Covid-19 “Resbakuna National Vaccoination Days with a total of 214,207 doses adminstered surpassing its target of 207,954 with percentage rate of 103.01%. Caraga Region is second with 105,531 (92.81%) doses given followed by Cagayan Valley Region with 125,026 (87.40%) vaccinated.

Ilocos Norte leads the provinces with the highest number of Covid vaccine administered with 434,781 (70.12%).
