A MAN who allegedly took a hostage was severely beaten by the public after being subdued by police at the Baliwag public market on August 13.
According to a report to PCOL Angel Garcillano, Provincial Director of Bulacan police, the incident occurred around 1:35 AM in the Baliwag public market, Brgy. Poblacion.
According to the report, Baliwag police officers immediately responded to the scene after receiving information about a hostage-taking incident.
A now-viral Facebook post showed police officers negotiating with the man, who was holding a knife and threatening to stab the victim. The victim remained calm during the ordeal, reassuring the suspect and patting his shoulder.
Unbeknownst to the hostage taker, a police officer positioned behind him suddenly lunged, grabbing the hand holding the knife.
Other police officers then joined in, subduing the suspect, while the victim and several men in the area punched the suspect repeatedly. Garcillano praised the swift, courageous, and patriotic action of PMSG Francis Damian and his colleagues at the Baliwag police station for saving a life and preventing a potential tragedy.
