CALABARZON police arrested a man who pretended to be a police officer as he allegedly extorted money from a businessman based in Silang, Cavite province.
The 51-year-old suspect identified only as ‘Jonaldo’ was arrested early Sunday after failing to present credentials proving his police affiliation.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly introduced himself as a police officer to the owner of a fleet of heavy equipment in Silang town.
The alleged victim told the police ‘Jonaldo’ was asking for a “monthly allowance” in exchange for protection of the businessman’s properties.
Alerted to the alleged extortion attempt, Police Regional Office 4A apprehended the suspect at past midnight on Sunday.
Recovered from the suspect was a .45-caliber pistol loaded with three bullets, for which the suspect could not produce a gun license and permit documents.
