AS we try to find love on Valentine’s Day, Deputy Speaker and Cebu 5th District Representative Vincent Franco “Duke” D. Frasco seeks to find a cure to a long-time problem which has been breaking the hearts of every Cebuano — the never-ending traffic in Metropolitan Cebu.
Yesterday, Rep. Frasco filed House Resolution No. 1592 directing the House Committees on Transportation and Good Government and Public Accountability to conduct an investigation on the traffic crisis in Metropolitan Cebu and recommend measures to resolve it.
Frasco stresses the significance of transportation sector in accelerating economic development, especially in highly-urbanized regions.
Metropolitan Cebu is the second fastest growing metropolitan in the country and has played an increasingly significant role in the industrial, commercial, and financial development of the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
However, along with its growing population is the continuous worsening of its traffic situation. Citing an earlier study conducted by JICA in 2018, the unresolved traffic congestion caused an estimated amount of at least P1.1 billion in economic losses a day.
Frasco sees the need to study the current traffic situation in Metropolitan Cebu and revisit the existing transportation and development policies and projects being implemented therein in order to truly resolve the problem.
Frasco hopes to further his efforts to address the perennial issue of traffic congestion in Metropolitan Cebu in pursuit of a greater quality of life for all, promotion of public welfare, and economic development.
