THE partially completed access road leading to Tangadan Falls, a local tourist hotspot in San Gabriel, La Union.

TWO infrastructure projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will provide better facilities and smoother travel for tourists visiting local destinations in north Luzon once completed this year.

Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that tourists visiting the 85-foot Pinsal Falls in Barangay Baballasioan in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur may now use the multi-storey building completed by DPWH Ilocos Sur District Engineering Office.

The two-storey building is built with a kitchen, storage room, and reception area in the first floor while the second floor has 10 bedrooms equipped with individual toilet and bath, for a total cost of P14.48-million funded under the General Appropriations Acts of 2020 and 2021.

Director Tan also reported the partial completion of the access road leading to Tangadan Falls, a local tourist hotspot in San Gabriel, La Union.

“DPWH is fast-tracking full completion of roadway leading to the main site, while other ongoing activities include roadway excavation and installation of stone masonry to protect residents and tourists from cliff hazards, especially during rainy season,” added Director Tan.

Funded with P18-million through the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program of the Department of Tourism and implemented under the DPWH Convergence and Special Support Program, the 0.400-lane kilometer road improvement is set to provide safer and more convenient access for tourists visiting Tangadan Falls.

Tan said that DPWH aims to complete more infrastructure projects that will improve transport not just for tourist but for residents as well, and also to boost tourism for economic development of the region.
