TWO vloggers in South Cotabato will faced criminal complaint after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has filed charger for their alleged improper treatment of tarsiers in their vlogs.
The DENR Region 12 Enforcement Division, according to an Inquirer report, filed the complaint against vloggers Ryan Parreño and Sammy Estrebilla on Thursday afternoon.
The vloggers’ action came to the DENR’s attention due to their viral video, posted on the Facebook page “Farm Boy,” showing them holding tarsiers while laughing and telling the animals to smile.
The DENR said the tarsiers in the video had been released into the wild.
Experts advise against handling tarsiers and say it is better to observe them from a distance because they are fragile and get stressed easily.
Tarsiers are also considered threatened species in the country.
