A CARGO vessel caught fire in the waters northwest of Limbones Island in Nasugbu, Batangas on Sunday, March 30.
According to a report released by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the MV CASTPHILL XV was engulfed in flames at around 4:27 AM. The PCG promptly responded to the incident, deploying the BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) to the scene.
The PCG crew successfully rescued seven crew members, including the ship’s captain, who sustained minor injuries. The rescued crew members were identified as:
- Mr. Darwin Putic (Captain), 46 years old
- Mr. Ronald Rafol, 42
- Mr. Harold Gamos, 45
- Mr. Romnick Sulano, 34
- Mr. Reyden Gamos, 37
- Mr. Manuel Munez, 48
- Mr. Ronald Danao, 58
At around 7:35 AM, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Maragondon rescued five additional crew members who were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. The rescued crew members were identified as:
- Mr. Lawrence B. Faeldo, 38 years old
- Mr. Elfren F. Fabello, 35
- Mr. Marcelo Oftana Jr., 32
- Mr. Arturo Ysug, 49
- Mr. Limuel Fababier, 45
The BRP Boracay transported the rescued crew to Pier 15 South Harbor in Manila and turned them over to the Coast Guard Medical Service (CGMED) for medical evaluation.
