A BIOLOGY student and former beauty queen tragically lost her life in a fire that engulfed the Laguna State Polytechnic University College of Arts and Sciences in Barangay Bubukal, Santa Cruz, Laguna on Thursday, March 13.
Police identified the victim as Trisha Macalagay, a Supreme Student Council officer and Miss Paete Tourism 2022. The fire, reported by LSPU employees to the Bureau of Fire Protection, broke out on the second floor of the College of Arts and Sciences building around 12:50 PM. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze by 3:09 PM.
Macalacay’s remains were discovered in a comfort room after the mopping-up operations. Her family, in a Facebook post, expressed their profound grief and shared a heartfelt tribute to her memory.
“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Trisha Macalagay. Trisha was cherished for her kindness, gentleness, and her beauty both inside and out. Her smile lit up any room, and her pure heart, confidence, intelligence, and exceptional qualities will always mark to those people she met,” the family wrote.
“Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit and the memories she leaves behind will remain in our hearts forever,” they added. “May you rest in peace my baby doll. Our princess.”
The Bureau of Fire Protection is currently investigating the incident, while LSPU authorities are cooperating with the investigation.
