BI raids secluded facility, arrests 42 undocumented Chinese workers

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended 42 Chinese nationals suspected of working illegally at a secluded facility in Alabat Cove, Barangay Villa Norte, Quezon province.

The operation, conducted at 5:44 AM on April 9, was carried out based on a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado following intelligence reports from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The targeted location, believed to be an office and residence, was swiftly secured by a joint force comprising the BI Regional Intelligence Group Unit 4, PAOCC, PNP Regional Intelligence Division 4A, Regional Special Operations Unit 4A, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 4A, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4A, Tactical Support Command SWAT, and the Alabat Municipal Police Station.

Authorities reported that the Chinese nationals failed to present valid passports or immigration documents. Initial questioning revealed that they were engaged in a construction project in the area.

However, their activities were found to be in violation of immigration laws, specifically for being undocumented and working without permits.

“Operating in the shadows is not an option in this country,” Viado stated. “These individuals had no legal right to work or even remain in the Philippines. Our message is clear: immigration laws must be followed, or consequences will follow,” the official added.

The arrested individuals will undergo deportation proceedings for violating Philippine immigration laws.

Viado also issued a strong warning to foreigners and local entities facilitating illegal employment. “We welcome foreign visitors, but anyone who abuses our immigration system – be it foreigners or employers – will face swift and decisive action,” he said.

The BI confirmed that they are conducting more joint operations nationwide to combat illegal immigration and ensure the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
