A SOLDIER of the Philippine Army was arrested by the police for alleged gunrunning activities in Cebu City on Friday.
“The PNP is taking aggressive steps in the campaign against the proliferation of illegal firearms to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the National and Local Elections in May 2022,” PNP Chief, Police General Dionardo Carlos said.
Carlos identified the arested suspect as Staff Sergeant Cristobal “Chris” Pantoja, 46, a resident of Brgy. Cambanay, Danao City.
He was arrested during a buy-bust operation against loose firearms launched by authorities, at Kamagong Range Parking Area, VISCOM in Cebu City.
Pantoja is assigned with the 7th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command (7RCDG, ARESCOM), Special Service.

“Appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect for violation of sections 28 and 32 of Republic Act 10591. While confiscated firearms will be submitted to the Regional Forensic Group 7 for ballistics examination,” Carlos said.
The Chief PNP expressed optimism this will serve as a fair warning the PNP will be decisive against illegal activities regardless of who is involved.
