THREE persons were arrested by the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga City, together with Coast Guard Special Operations Group – Southwestern Mindanao (CGSOG-SWM), and Coast Guard Sub-station Rio Hondo after the speed boat they were riding caught fire at the vicinity waters off Zamboanga City Pier at around Thursday afternoon. 2:03 pm, 17 August 2023.
The rescued were on board ‘Fadi Laminusa Express’ speedboat while conducting sea trial around 2:03 pm.
The rescue team responded using three fire extinguishers to put out the fire in the speedboat while also transporting the victims to safety together with CGSOG-SWM and CGSS Rio Hondo personnel.
Investigation showed that the ill-fated speedboat departed from Tres Marias, Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City with three persons onboard to conduct a sea trial when they noticed that a fire occurred in between the fuel tank and battery.
Immediately, the victims jumped off into vicinity waters approximately 50 meters away from Zamboanga City Pier and eventually were saved by their relatives.
The “Fadi Laminusa Express” sank at vicinity waters of South of Barangay Mariki, Zamboanga City, and declared fire out at around 3:30 pm.
The victims suffered first degree burns and are now being treated at the Coast Guard Medical Clinic – Southwestern Mindanao (CGMEDC-SWM).
