A SUSPECT identified only by the alias “Lance” has confessed to killing 20-year-old Jazmine Iya Martinez, an architecture student at the National University–Lipa, authorities confirmed.
According to the suspect, he was hired by another man known as “Kevin” to carry out the crime. Both “Lance” and “Kevin” were arrested on Sunday, October 25, and are now in police custody facing criminal charges.
Lance told investigators that Kevin allegedly ordered the killing because he had been romantically pursuing the victim for two years but had never received a favorable response from her. The motive, as described, stems from unrequited affection, with Kevin reportedly paying Lance to commit the act. Investigators are working to establish the exact relationship between the two suspects and the victim, as well as the full details of the agreement between them.
Authorities have yet to release the full legal names of the suspects as they build their case and coordinate with the families involved. The killing has drawn public concern and sympathy, with the university community and the public calling for justice for the victim. Prosecutors are expected to file formal charges in the coming days as the police complete their investigation and prepare the case for court.
