AT least 168 passengers, 55 crew members and 21 rolling cargoes were rescued ng Coast Guard Station Romblon (CGS) as vessel ran aground in Sitio Agbuyog, Bgay. Capaclan Romblon, Romblon, Sunday evening.
The passenger vessel MV SWM SALVE REGINA departed Magdiwang Port, Romblon at 9:00 p.m., Sunday bound for Romblon, Romblon.
The team conducted a vessel assessment and coordinated with the operator of the Romblon Diocesan Social Action Center (RDSAC) boat, Provincial Government of Romblon (PGR) rescue vessel, and Carl Aaron Stephen speedboat to assist in the safe evacuation of the passengers.
At around 3:43 a.m., all 168 passengers were safely brought to Romblon Public Plaza, while the 55 crew members, including the master of the ship, stayed at MV SWM REGINA for vessel monitoring.
Meanwhile, personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station Romblon Romblon continuously monitored the status of the aground vessel, and no signs of oil spillage or flooding were observed on the vessel.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
