THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 48 passengers after a motorbanca capsized during the fluvial procession in celebration of the Feast of San Sebastian in Barangay Maytalang I, Lumban Laguna on January 25, 2026.
At approximately 11:00 AM, participating devotees reported that the MBca Vher Marie began to list while navigating the waters off Barangay Maytalang I the vessel capsized. The incident occurred while PCG personnel were conducting maritime security operations in support of the fluvial procession.
Upon receiving the report, PCG teams on board AB-022 and AB-014 immediately proceeded to the incident area. All 48 passengers onboard the capsized motorbanca were promptly rescued and safely transported to the nearest riverside in Barangay Maytalang I, Lumban, Laguna. No casualties were reported.
The PCG is continuously conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure the safety of future maritime activities, especially during public and religious events.
