
A ONE-year-old child was rescued from the hands of his hostage-taker father in Taytay, Rizal on Saturday night (January 25).
According to Taytay Mayor Allan De Leon, the hostage-taker, a 26-year-old driver and construction worker, is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) after surrendering to authorities following over an hour of negotiations.
“Under the leadership of our Provincial Director Philip Maragun, Taytay Police Chief Marlo Solero, and the task force multiplier, the hostage situation was successfully resolved, and the child was rescued safely,” the mayor said in a Facebook post
“There was a hostage-taking incident, but our PNP handled it well. We are thankful that despite the inconvenience, no one was hurt and the child was rescued safely,” he said.
According to reports, the hostage-taking began around 7 pm and caused heavy traffic on C-6 Road towards Taguig City.
The road was reopened to the public after the situation was resolved.
The child is now safe and in the care of his family.
Meanwhile, the suspect is facing charges of serious illegal detention, alarms and scandal, and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.
