THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is pushing for better protection and welfare of Filipino domestic workers in Singapore as it strengthens ties with its key stakeholders in upholding ethical recruitment and safe labor migration.
In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure better protection and opportunities for OFWs, the DMW through its Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Singapore engaged with the members of Association of Employment Agencies in Singapore (AEAS) to enhance the recruitment and placement of Filipino domestic workers in Singapore anchored on the Philippine regulatory framework for fair and ethical recruitment.
Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay led the forum, which also paved way for the discussions on the accreditation and verification procedures.
She also emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in upholding the rights and dignity of Filipino workers abroad.
“We value our longstanding partnership with Singapore and commend the AEAS for their commitment to ethical recruitment. The protection of our workers is a shared responsibility,” the Undersecretary said.
The officers and members of the AEAS, meanwhile, expressed their support to the Philippine government’s initiatives and its readiness to explore mechanisms to further strengthen the protection and welfare of domestic workers, many of whom are Filipinos.
The AEAS representatives shared that they are implementing ethical recruitment standards and protective measures consistent with their vision of empowering employment agencies, employers and migrant domestic workers
