THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), through its Migrant Workers Office in Singapore (MWO-SG), reports the Singapore-based OFW involved in the emergency flight incident last Tuesday suffered a neck fracture and back injuries.
She is set to undergo surgery tonight to address her neck fracture. No word as yet on the treatment or surgery options for her back injuries. Her condition remains “sensitive” but stable.
Representatives from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok (PE-BKK) visited the OFW in the hospital yesterday. Arrangements are being made for a family member to join her as she recovers.
Meanwhile, MWO-London reports that the UK-based Filipina staff nurse and mother of the two-year-old male infant is already a permanent resident in the United Kingdom. Her husband is there on a dependent’s visa. All three are in stable condition.
The fifth Filipino passenger, a 62-year-old male, was confined in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) after becoming unconscious. Doctors are monitoring his condition for further evaluation and treatment. A nephew based in Bangkok is assisting him.
Singapore Airlines is covering all the expenses of the affected passengers onboard flight SQ 321, which diverted to Bangkok after experiencing “severe extreme turbulence” en route from London to Singapore last Tuesday afternoon, 21 May 2024.
MWO-SG, with PE-BKK, will continue monitoring the situation of the five Filipinos.
DMW Head Office, Mandaluyong will issue further bulletins as needed.
