Pinay caregiver in Israel dies after missile strike

admin July 13, 2025

THE Philippine Embassy in Israel confirmed the death of Leah Mosquera, a 49-year-old Filipina caregiver from Negros Occidental, succumbing to injuries sustained during an Iranian missile strike on her apartment building in Rehovot.

Mosquera, affectionately known as “Ate Leah” by her friends, had been hospitalized at Shamir Medical Center since the attack, undergoing multiple surgeries and fighting for her life in the intensive care unit for several weeks.

Her passing was confirmed by her sister, Joy, who also works in Israel. The Embassy is now working to facilitate the repatriation of Mosquera’s remains and provide necessary assistance to her family.

Her death highlights the tragic consequences of the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, underscoring the vulnerability of civilians caught in the crossfire.

The Embassy’s statement expressed deep sorrow at Mosquera’s passing, noting that she would have celebrated her 50th birthday on July 29.

The tragedy underscores the risks faced by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in conflict zones and the importance of providing support and assistance to those affected by such events.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in a series of deadly missile strikes, tragically impacting civilians, including Mosquera.

The Embassy’s commitment to assisting with repatriation and providing support to her family underscores the Philippine government’s dedication to protecting and supporting its citizens abroad. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of international conflicts and the vulnerability of OFWs in unpredictable situations.
