OFW Party List Representative Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino held a series of key events to connect with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and Filipino community leaders in Taiwan, focusing on the pressing issues affecting their welfare and rights.
In a dialogue with OFWs, Rep. Magsino addressed concerns such as equitable benefits for caregivers, gaps in healthcare coverage, and the need for stronger bilateral labor protections. She emphasized her commitment to actionable solutions, highlighting key legislative measures she is advocating, including the Internet Voting Bill and the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers. These initiatives aim to enhance the rights and representation of OFWs worldwide.
“OFWs are the backbone of our economy and ambassadors of Filipino excellence. We must act decisively to address their concerns and provide sustainable support,” Rep. Magsino said. “Through direct consultations, we ensure their voices shape our policies.”
Filipino workers in Taiwan acknowledged the favorable policies for migrant workers in Taiwan. However, caretakers expressed the need for equitable benefits for their sector to which Rep. Magsino committed to help improve the bilateral labor agreements with Taiwan by working hand in hand with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
She also highlighted the DMW’s Aksyon Fund, encouraging OFWs to maximize its benefits for addressing immediate needs such as healthcare-related expenses.
The visit coincided with the “Paskong Pinoy: Piyesta, Musika, at Kultura” celebration organized by the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) at Chung Mei Auditorium, Fu Jen Catholic University, New Taipei City and the Paskong Magic ni Quilter at the Nangang Exhibition Center Hall in Taipei.
The solon joined hundreds of OFWs in celebrating Filipino culture, delivering a messages of gratitude and solidarity.
In her speeches in the two major gatherings, she paid tribute to the sacrifices of OFWs and their unwavering contributions to the Philippines. “Your dedication and resilience inspire us to fight harder for your rights and welfare,” she said.
The OFW Party List also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Quilter International Enterprises Co Ltd for its services to OFWs in Taiwan through QBox Delivery and QCash.
Magsino’s visit underscores her hands-on approach to addressing OFW concerns. By meeting directly with Filipino workers and leaders, she ensures that their needs and aspirations remain at the forefront of the OFW Party List’s advocacy.
